Frequently asked questions.

How are bicycle racks installed?

Here are the different installation methods we offer:

1. Cement installation

For environments where permanent fixing is required, sealing bike hoops is the most common method. Here are the steps involved:

  • Soil preparation : A hole is dug at the desired location for each hoop, usually 30 to 40 cm deep.
  • Positioning the rollbar : The hoop is then placed in the hole, ensuring that it is perfectly vertical.
  • Concrete pouring : Concrete is poured around the base of the hoop to seal it securely. The concrete must be left to dry and harden for at least 24 hours before using the hoop.

2. PCB installation

Bicycle hoops can also be installed using bolt-on plates for a more flexible and often less invasive fixing. This method is useful for surfaces that are already paved. The steps are as follows:

  • Soil preparation : The surface must be flat and clean to ensure good adhesion.
  • Mounting plates : Each hoop is fitted with base plates. These plates are then secured to the ground with anchor bolts.
  • Drilling and bolting : Holes are drilled in the ground, following the positions of the plates. Anchor bolts are inserted and tightened to secure the hoop.

You can choose the spacing you need to maneuver your bikes. We generally recommend a spacing of 82 cm between bikes. You can calculate the spacing and number of hoops required for the dimensions of your bike shelter. thanks to our tool.

What is a bicycle rack?

A bicycle hoop is a galvanized steel parking rack designed to secure bicycles by keeping them upright and providing a stable attachment point for padlocks. At ByCommute, each hoop is designed to guarantee the durability of the support over time. A hoop can be placed either outside or inside a bicycle storage unit. Each hoop creates 2 bicycle spaces.

On which floor should a bicycle rack be placed?

To install a galvanized steel bicycle hoop safely and stably, it's crucial to choose the right type of floor. Here are the different types of ground where bicycle hoops can be installed, and the appropriate methods for each type:

1. Concrete

  • Advantages : Concrete is one of the best types of flooring for installing bicycle hoops. It's solid, durable and offers excellent stability.
  • Installation: The hoops can be fastened using plates bolted directly into the concrete, or by grouting holes and filling them with concrete for permanent fixing.
  • Disadvantages The cost of pouring a concrete slab or concrete blocks can be high, depending on the surface to be covered.

2. Asphalt

  • Benefits Concrete: this is generally the most common type of floor. It is found in parking lots.
  • Installation: use Oura hoop racks rather than hoops. Indeed, when a hoop is installed in asphalt, it can be subjected to significant lateral and vertical forces, especially if heavy bikes are attached to it or if users lean heavily on it. As asphalt is a less dense material than concrete, it can deform under pressure, creating a leverage effect that could damage the hoop's attachment or cause it to move. If you don't want to install racks, the best solution is to pour a concrete slab.
  • Disadvantage The price of concrete slabs can be expensive.

3. Pavers

  • Advantages : pavers offer a pleasing aesthetic and are often used in urban and residential areas.
  • Installation: For cobblestones, we recommend removing some of the cobblestones to dig holes and install the hoops by grouting. Once the hoop is in place, the pavers can be replaced around the base.

4. Gravel and Sand

  • Installation: Hoops must be installed with concrete bases to ensure stability. This involves digging holes, adding a concrete base, then securing the hoop to this base. Surrounding areas can be covered with gravel or sand after installation.

5. Soil and Lawn

  • Installation: as with gravel and sand, concrete bases are required. Dig holes and install a concrete base before attaching the hoops. Make sure the base is deep enough to prevent any movement.
